Apps built by people who ship their own.
Gorilla Public designs and builds mobile and desktop apps for small businesses — iOS apps, companion apps for products and stores, and the internal tools that make a business run smoother. This isn’t a sideline for us: we build and ship our own app, Gorilla Pulse, a WooCommerce companion iOS app, through the same App Store gauntlet your app would face. When we quote an app, it’s from the experience of actually shipping one — the code, the Apple review process, the updates, all of it.

The honest question first: do you actually need an app?Sometimes the answer is no — a fast mobile-first website does the job for most “customers finding and contacting you” problems, and we’ll say so before you spend app money. Apps earn their keep when there’s repeat use: a tool your team opens daily, a companion to a product you sell, bookings and loyalty customers return to, or data someone needs on their phone every morning. If that’s you, read on. If you’re not sure, that’s a free conversation.
What we build
From pocket to desktop.
APP / MOBILE
Mobile apps — iOS & Android
Native-quality apps built with React Native — one codebase that ships to both iPhone and Android, which means one build to pay for instead of two. Push notifications, camera and QR features, offline behavior, and interfaces designed for thumbs, not shrunk-down websites.
React NativePushApp Store
APP / COMPANION
Companion apps for products & stores
An app that extends something you already sell or run — your store’s numbers on your phone, a customer-facing companion to your product, a field app for your service business. This is exactly what we built for ourselves with Gorilla Pulse, so the architecture is proven, not theoretical.
WooCommerceWordPressAPIs
APP / INTERNAL
Internal tools & dashboards
The apps nobody sells but every business needs: job tracking, inventory checks, field checklists, order lookups, the daily-numbers screen for the owner. Small, focused tools that replace the spreadsheet everyone hates — often the highest-ROI software a small business can commission.

APP / DESKTOP
Desktop apps & web apps
When the job lives on a bigger screen: desktop and browser-based applications built on modern web technology — installable, fast, and connected to your existing systems. If your team works in it all day, it deserves better than a browser tab full of tabs.
Web appsCross-platform
APP / BACKEND
Backends, APIs & integrations
Apps are only as good as what they connect to. We build the server side too: secure APIs, WordPress and WooCommerce integration, payment and subscription systems, licensing, and push infrastructure — the plumbing that makes the app trustworthy.

APP / SHIP
App Store shipping & beyond
The part most developers underestimate: Apple’s review process, TestFlight betas, provisioning, store listings, and the update pipeline after launch. We’ve been through it with our own product — your app doesn’t get to be our learning experience.
TestFlightReviewUpdates
Every build includes
The standard equipment.
- A scoping phase that defines exactly what version one is — and isn’t
- One codebase for iPhone and Android where mobile is the target
- Design in your brand — an app that looks like your business, not a template
- Secure pairing/login and sensible data privacy from day one
- Connected to your existing systems: WordPress, WooCommerce, payments
- Push notifications where they earn their place (not where they annoy)
- TestFlight beta so you’re using the real app before launch
- App Store submission handled — including the rejection roulette
- A support and update plan, quoted flat, so launch isn’t goodbye
- You own everything: code, accounts, listings, and data
How it works
From idea to app icon.
1
Scope it honestly
We define the smallest version that’s genuinely useful — and tell you if a website or existing tool would do the job for less.
2
Design & prototype
Screens you can see and react to before the build — so the expensive part starts only when the plan is right.
3
Build & beta
The real app, on your phone, through TestFlight — used and refined in the wild before the public ever sees it.
4
Ship & support
App Store launch, then a flat-fee update plan. Software is a living thing; we stick around.
Questions
Fair questions before you build.
How much does an app cost to build?
Less than the agency horror stories, more than a website. A focused small-business app — one clear job, done well — is typically a five-figure project quoted flat, with the number depending on screens, integrations, and platforms. You get one price up front, not an hourly meter. And if your idea can launch smaller and cheaper, we’ll design version one that way on purpose.
iPhone, Android, or both?
Because we build with React Native, one codebase covers both — so “both” doesn’t double the price. That said, launching iPhone-first and adding Android when demand proves out is often the smart sequencing, and it’s exactly what we did with our own app.
How long does it take?
A focused app typically runs a couple of months from kickoff to App Store: scope and design first, several build-and-beta cycles, then Apple’s review (days to a week, plus the occasional rejection round — we budget for it because it happens to everyone). Bigger scope, longer timeline, and you’ll know it from the quote.
Can it connect to my website / WooCommerce / existing systems?
That’s our home turf. Connecting apps to WordPress and WooCommerce — securely, without slowing your site — is the exact architecture behind our own product. POS, booking, payment, and other systems with APIs are all connectable; we’ll confirm feasibility in scoping, not after a deposit.
What happens after launch? Apps need updates, right?
Yes — OS updates, store requirements, and your own feature list all keep moving. Every project ends with a flat-fee support plan option covering updates, monitoring, and improvements. No plan? The code is documented and yours, so any developer can pick it up. But we build things intending to stand behind them.
Who owns the app?
You do — code, the Apple and Google developer accounts (created in your business’s name), the store listings, and every byte of data. We’re added as collaborators to do the work. Same rule as everything else we sell: if we ever part ways, you lose nothing.
